| BRANCHES |
| Fourteen generations bridge the timespan between the founder of our family, Rabbi Isaac Ashkenazi, and the present time. The more we study the family, the clearer its branching becomes. We can follow the branches with comparative confidence from the eighth generation on, that is from around 1850 to this day. Therefore, for the time being, all Behmoiras descendents of a common ancestor belonging to the eighth generation, will be considered to be members of the same "branch". On the basis of this arrangement, which is arbitrary, but essential, the family splits at the 8th generation into 28 branches, which correspond to the 28 individuals, men or women, who are known to have lived at that point of time. Some branches are very short, because of lack of progeny. Most of them, however, have survived to this day, even if their family names today are different. Each branch will be given a serial number, and will be hereafter known by its number and the name of its 8th generation ancestor. |
